Lamas is a province located at 25 kilometers from Tarapoto city; it’s an old town where its habitants preserves their traditions and ancestral uses. The “lamistas” are descendants of Chanca ethnic group, who being defeated by Incas in their will to conquer Cusco city; they took refuge in this part of the Amazonia.

The “lamistas” were reduce 100 years ago approximately with the spanish settlement. Nowadays they preserve their traditions, uses, language (quechua) and the purity of the race.
